Sunday De-Brief
There were some things about yesterday that didn’t measure up. Ultimately those things are my fault, and I’m “on” them. Probably things nobody else would make a big deal about, but little deals often make big differences. Jesus deserves our absolute dead-level best. And so do unbelievers who might give us ONE shot to convince them that Jesus is the real deal. Some other thoughts:
- Attendance was a little flat, and I’m not sure why.
- Didn’t really give the big challenging response thing yesterday, and I’m not sure why not. I guess I don’t want it to become an overly familiar “ritual.”
- We’re doing too many announcements, but all of them are church-wide things and very important.
- Band was awesome. You know how some songs just make you feel a surge of Holy Spiritual energy? “Let God Arise” did that to me on Sunday. And the whole praise part of our worship made me feel connected to God.
- I’m loving the Heroes videos that highlight our volunteers. Wanna be a Hero?
- I want to be Caleb when I grow up. Conquering mountains and killing Mutant Mouth-breathing Monster Men when I’m 85.
- God won’t lead you lead you TO it … unless He’ll lead you THROUGH it.
- Thinking back on the message, some of it might have sounded a little unnecessarily negative. I hope not.
- I don’t believe Jesus “puts the LAMB in LAMBORGHINI.”
- I do believe it is OK to expose pink wig-wearing phonies who call for “precious little ladies” to mail in their grocery money so God will prosper them. Maybe the cheesy televised hucksters sitting in gaudy gold-leaf mini-thrones should sell a couple of their own luxury cars and send money to the precious ladies who have to save up grocery money.
- In fact, maybe the hucksters should repent and get off of TV.
- Was that too negative? I don’t care.
- I am so excited about what God is going to do. I just wonder if we are able to handle it. And maximize it.
- I know there are some things in me that need to change.
- And I’m “on” that too.
