Sunday De-Brief
It was our privilege today to host the CCU football team. Our “weight per seat” quotient went up exponentially. We have a heart for college students, and I hope a bunch of them give us a shot at being their “home away from home” church. Some of our other CCU’ers were back too, and it was great to see them.
- Today’s Worldview-oriented message: The Devil is Real.
- Wonder if that’s why we had a zillion glitches and hiccups during the first worship? I’ve admitted before that those things drive me looney-tunes. I could hear my own teeth grinding.
- Very “facial” message. Had NO doubt that we’d see a bunch of CCU players stand to announce their new faith. And …. nope. My ineffectiveness? My presumption? Their gutlessness? God teaching everybody something in the process?
- Band was good in the 1st worship … nasty good in the 2nd.
- Loved the beat-boxing.
- Both services were packed in the main auditorium. Not sure about the overflows. Not sure about kids’ areas.
- Saw a few new volunteers doing their thang. LOVE that. We believe volunteering is part of becoming a disciple. And we expect members to volunteer somewhere.
- Had a very nice lady ask me after worship how she could get immediately involved in serving the city. My skimpy answers embarrassed me. That HAS to change.
- From today’s message: “Being saved is like being pregnant; You either is … or you ain’t. There’s no ’sorta.’”
- Jesus said whoever is not WITH Him is AGAINST Him. That leaves no room for neutral.
- There are some things we need to change and sharpen if we’re going to punch through some growth “lids.”
- There are some things we need to change to HANDLE the growth that IS coming.
- FRIEND DAY is the first Sunday in October. Can we put 1000 people in the movie theater on one Sunday? Time to shock ourselves into realizing what our future looks like.

Loved it. Wish all of you reading this would listen to the service online while you work. It is worth your time. I plan to listen to it again and take notes so that I am more equipped when people ask me questions.
