Follow up: Demon Repellant
Yesterday’s teaching segment at The ROCK ended with a short list of things we can all do to fight back against the darkness: Know that you know Jesus, Put your armor on, and talk back to the Devil. Let me follow up (without another sermon) with the armor thing. You can read it for yourself in Ephesians 6, but I just want to toss out some hints about how to make the whole suit fit:
- (v.10) It’s HIS strength, and HIS armor, not just your willpower
- (v.14) In the day this was originally written, the belt and the breastplate had a definite relationship. If the belt didn’t fit right, neither would the breastplate / “heart guard”. Oooh – I feel a JohnnyCochranism coming on (“If the belt don’t fit … the Devil just won’t quit”). True. Truth makes righteousness fit. Those who reject the truth don’t have righteousness to protect their hearts. It is why those who doubt the Bible often end up scandalized by sin.
- (v.15) Feet? It is essential that warriors move forward … even in the face of obstacles and opposition. Jesus said that the gates of Hell wouldn’t stop His church. We are supposed to attack the gates of Hell to de-populate the place.
- (v.16) Fight fire with faith. You can’t keep the darts from flying. But you can intercept them with the faith that “He who is in us is greater than the one shooting the darts” (I John 4:4)
- (v.17) The helmet protects the most important of all areas – your head. And the sword is what we use to puncture all the accusations and lies of our enemy.
- (v.18) Pray in the Spirit. Spirit-led, Spirit-anointed, Spirit-instead-onself-absorbed-fleshly prayer is our WMD … our nuke.
Got your armor on?
