Sunday in Knoxville
I’m glad I got to travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to see my daughter play softball against the Lady Vols.
Two games scheduled for yesterday (Sat.), and the Lady Gamecocks haven’t lost YET! Then again, both games were cancelled yesterday. Might play two cold soggy ballgames starting in just a little while. Some Sunday observations from life on the road:
- I MISS THE ROCK! Right now the band is finishing their rehearsal … and the teacher (Matt, not me) is running through coordinating his notes with what will appear on screen. The early birds are filling up the lobby. And I’m missing it. Sucks.
- Had a great date night with a drop-dead gorgeous blond last night (my baby girl).
- Saturday Night Live is a poor thin shadow of its former self.
- Logging on to my mail and blog from two states away makes me feel a little like Jack Bauer (No, not Cloe. Jack! Definitly Jack.)
- For all you folks who’ve told me that you can get just as much out of watching church on TV, I have something I must tell you: You are LIARS. All of you. I couldn’t find a church in the area with an early service. So I channel surfed for some spiritual food. Jimmy Swaggert sang, and cried. Turned it. David Jeremiah prepared to tell me where Armageddon was and how the world would end (as he pimped his new book on the subject). Turned it. Jentezen Franklin is kinda fun to listen to, but he was pimping his “salt covenant” study package. He even promised to send me an Ipod loaded with 40 of his best messages IF I sent him a “seed” gift (code-word for money). Couldn’t handle it. If you are reading this, and you are an “I go to church on TV” person, GO TO A REAL CHURCH. They are all imperfect, but pick one. We’re severely imperfect at The ROCK, and I ain’t giving away Ipods, but come worship with us. Transfer your membership from St. Mattress.
- Now it’s about 10am, and young Matthew Brown is going to the bathroom for the 4th time this morning (trust me). But he is going to bring the heat, and God is going to do some things there that can’t be described in human terms. Go get ‘em, Matt.
- Russell and Kristi are there as guest vocalists – partly to sing a song I wanted them to sing. And I’m going to miss it. BUT I am going to invite them back ASAP to sing the very same song, and the rest of you will just have to freaking deal with it (Actually, you’ll love it).
- Knowing that God is doing awesome things there, and I’m not there, will have me pouting well past lunchtime.
- But until I have to actually leave for the ballfield, I will be praying for what God is doing at The ROCK.
- If you read this today (Sunday), pray for me, I have a 7-8 hour drive home (alone). Part of that drive will be through rainy foggy mountains. And I might not roll into Conway before 2am.

Prayers for travel mercies. Prayering you are home safe and sound right now and snoozing away. Had two visitors with me yesterday that I have been inviting for over two years. They really were blessed with The Rock and have promised to come back to hear your message. Were awestruck with our Praise and Worship. Love when a Newcomer enters and I witness their impression of church in a theatre. SMILE
