Birthday Bash
On the first Sunday of 2004, The ROCK held its first official public worship gathering, A core
group had been praying and planning and dreaming and scheming for over a year. A slightly larger group had been doing leader training and worshiping in a restaurant for awhile. And they allowed a hometown washed-up uncouth homey to move back to town and help lead the thing.
God has been awesome. That sounds so trite … so “what the preacher is supposed to say.” But awesome He is. He’s provided for our needs without fail. We likely have more recently-saved people attending than we do long-time believers. He’s added some people who seem indispensable. We have some volunteers whose passion and depth of commitment I’d compare to anybody’s.
This wee
kend, we’ll celebrate. We’ll have our normal EVERY-SUNDAY PARTY on Sunday morning. But on Sunday afternoon at 5pm we’ll worship at Downtown Conway’s P-Nut Warehouse. Call it our first-ever Hot Tub Baptism / Tailgate / Pig-Pickin’ / live music / $1 Giveaway-athon. The coolest people will arrive by 4:00 or so just to hang out, smell the pork cooking, listen to the band practicing, and enjoy being cooler than the late-comers.
The event is BYOEE: Bring Your Own Everything Else. Bring your own side dishes, drinks (SOFT drinks!), plates and napkins, lawn chairs, canapies (if you want them), whatever. It’s a tailgate party. Invite your unchurched friends. Free pig will get ‘em every time.
That’s how we roll.
