RETRO
This month has been a lot of fun at The ROCK.
We’ve reacquainted ourselves with decades gone by. We re-lived (sort of … some weren’t alive in those decades) the music and culture and styles of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. And we’ve taken each decade’s predominant theme so we could find a biblical response to that theme.
- To the 50’s longing for security … we named salvation in Christ as the only true and eternal source of security.
- To the 60’s rebellion … we recognized our own sweet rebellion, and we liked it.
- To the 70’s peace movement … we rediscovered the only true path to peace.
- This Sunday, we’ll note the greed of the 80’s. And I’ll tell you a story of unselfishness you might never forget. How about the band doing a little Journey (“Don’t Stop Believing.”) Looking for some help with how to “get your 80’s on?” Click here.
It’s been more than a sermon gimmick. I hope we’ve grasped the fact that today’s headlines are a product of yesteryear’s events. The series – as a whole – raises an obvious question: What is our church doing NOW that will matter in a decade … or two … or five? And what are you doing right now that will last?

That thing Gary Lamb wrote…it’s the same sometimes with marriage.
