Weekend Cranium Dump

There’s a reason I call this weekly installment “Weekend Cranium Dump.”  It’s because most people “judge” church by what happens during the actual worship gathering.  But I wish all our attenders could see the rest of what happens.  This weekend it was a couple dozen (or more) people staying at Conway High until after midnight on Saturday unloading and setting up stuff.  Actually some of the hard work stretches back to the previous Sunday when they loaded EVERYTHING we owned from the theater.  Some highlights from this morning:

  • I had the privilege of leading a young woman in prayer as she gave her life to Christ.  Nothing can top that.  Nothing.
  • 685 in attendance.
  • Cupcakes.
  • Band got it crunk.  Then soft and sweet.  Then crunk.  Every vocalist was in the zone.
  • This week, and without any close competitor, Jerimiah Pensinger was the Church MVP.  If I told you all the things he had to get done YOU would take tomorrow off just to recover.
  • He would quickly tell you how many people jumped in to get all the transporting, techno-geeking, wiring, coordinating, preparing, and other stuff done.
  • There was a whole front row of teenage guys who lifted up their shirts to show chests with J-E-S-U-S  painted on them.  I’m confident that didn’t happen in any other churches today.   Maybe nowhere else on the whole planet.  I love this church.
  • We had over 30 First Time Guest cards filled out.  That probably represents 50-80 actual first-timers, and that is incredible.  It means our folks did the vital work of inviting others.
  • WE GET TO USE CONWAY HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE NEXT YEAR!!!
  • Sometimes great big vibrant amazing Sundays are followed by “OK” Sundays.  Let’s not.
  • Enjoyed meeting the 97.7 Mix FM DJ.  He’s a brother in Christ.
  • A newspaper was there taking pictures of our event today.  I wish they would have told me when to pose, and suck in my gut, and strike an impressive “Preacher pose.”
  • All the stories I told today were true: growing while hiding, struggling with when to buy property, buying because two, uh, strangers confirmed God’s direction.  All true.
  • All the goals I enumerated today WILL, with God’s help, happen in 10 years or less.

The Rock changed my life and my family forever. We won’t forget that and were with you in prayer all week. Congrats on being back at the high school, I know the impact that will have on some volunteers who worked their butts off in that theater every week (and still will no doubt). It’s so awesome to keep up with you guys and see the huge steps Katalyst is taking. Inspires me… Rest assured that everything that The Rock taught me is being put to use in Northeast PA, in the small group/church plant I’m working in now. We love and miss you guys terribly, but KNOW that God has a plan for our family here. Happy 5th Birthday!!!
