ROCKstalgia, Part II

rockheaderSometimes (maybe a lot of the time) the problem is NOT that we don’t know God’s will. The problem is that we aren’t sure if we really WANT to know it.   That’s why we do so much “drive-by” praying.  God might actually give us a very clear assignment.   And then what?

I believe that was the case when The ROCK bought property.  We had prayed about where we should buy.  One option was to buy 20+ acres right next to what had been a tough public housing project neighborhood.  I couldn’t get a clear word from God, so almost every day I’d park beside it and pray.  Finally, I believe God led me to drive into the tough neighborhood and ask the first person I saw if they would attend our church if we built there.  I know that sounds wack, but I was convinced it was a God thing.  First people I saw looked like two crack head guys walking the street in the middle of the day.  OK, what now?   You can hear the rest of that story this Sunday at CHS, 10:30am,  at our 5th Birthday Celebration.

Another time I was convinced God told me we should give our whole offering away. All of it.  I wanted Him to say another church was supposed to give us THEIR offering.  I wrestled with that all week.  But we obeyed Him.  And, as usual, he showed off.  Our normal offering was under $5000.  That Sunday, it was over $46,000.  You read that correctly.  But a man also met me in the lobby and said, “I gave already.  But I also want to give something JUST for this church.”  Inside that envelope was $15,000.  Triple our normal offering.

There have been those times when it was so easy to doubt.  We’ve been without a place to meet.  We’ve met in a theater with NO lease … no guarantee we’d have a place to meet the very next week.  We’ve been harshly criticized.  Some of the people who left us have left me with my jaw dropped open and my heart broken.  But I know this much about God’s will.  The ROCK is all up in it. We haven’t been able to budge without bumping into His blessing and protection and provision.

Come celebrate that with us this Sunday at the Conway High auditorium.
