Shoes and Folding Money

If you are coming to The ROCK this Sunday, and you have been paying attention, you already know what we’ve been asking you to bring with you: shoes and money.

Kind of an odd combination, isn’t it?

The shoes are for Haiti. With much of the country now literally a crumbling dump, and with people now walking more than ever, shoes are a critical need.  So we are linking up with a great organization called “Samaritan’s Feet” to do something about it.  Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “putting feet on your faith.”  We’re doing that by putting shoes on someone else’s feet.  Danny Bonifas, a ROCKer and CCU student, is heading this up for us.  So far, from all other sources, 800 pairs of shoes have been collected.  Surely we can put this over the 1000 mark!

The money is for The ROCK. Specifically, it is to jump-start our effort to move forward with a new campus.  Having a one-Sunday emphasis on a big offering is a way to prove something to ourselves:  God can move through us to actually DO this thing.  We need $15,000 more to pay for our whole Master Plan (& not borrow money).   That’s probably an average of only $100 increase per attending family.  We’ve kept this in-house, low-key, and simple:  Simply bring a bigger offering than you ever have to church on this one Sunday.

I would LOVE to blow everybody away with the enormity of our one-Sunday experiment.  I know some people are struggling financially.  That’s why we’ve simple said, “Bring your biggest offering.”  For some that might mean a $10 increase.  For others, $10,000.   My advice?  Pray, and give exactly what you believe God has led you to give.  There will be no high-pressure sales pitch.  No glorifying those who can give much.  And NO guilt trips for those who cannot.

Think of it this way:  If we cannot afford to impress each other with just one Sunday’s generosity, we probably have no business talking about a campus.

To God be the glory!
