Weekend Cranium Dump
I was one of four Childses to buzz down to Orlando over the weekend to watch my daughter Evan play softball for the USC Gamecocks. The trip, the weather, and the company were all excellent. The Gamecock softball? Eh, not so much. Some thoughts about the weekend (here and there):
- We did take the opportunity to worship at a church called “C3″ in Orlando, and they meet in a theater. LOTS of similarities, but – as always – I picked up some new ideas too. Pastor had diamond earrings. Hmmmm. Nah. Met a very nice young couple there from SC. He’s their lead guitarist, but will soon leave to go enroll at Southeastern Seminary (my alma mater). Small world.
- All reports from Sunday sound awesome. Matt apparently knocked it out of the park. Attendance was again WAY up. We can lose and gain 20% of our attendance faster than any church I’ve ever heard of.
- I know, I know: Folks heard we would have decent preaching … for a change.
- Bet you’ve never been given a barf bag at church before, have you?
- I SO missed being with our ROCK family, especially after the previous scaled-down “No Volunteers” experiment. I wish we had church TODAY!
- School of ROCK completed its first mini-seminar. I picked up several signals from folks who loved it. School of ROCK is going to make a significant difference in the spiritual depth of our ministry.
- TWO BIG SUNDAYS ARE COMING!!! This Sunday is about Crazy Generosity, and we’re asking folks to bring extra shoes (for Haiti), and the BIGGEST OFFERING they’ve ever given. Then Birthday #5 on March 7. We’re going back to where we started. Conway High School at 10:30. Mix 97.7 will be there broadcasting live. I’m inviting people everywhere, every day, all the time.
- You?
- WE HAVE AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT COMING. Stay tuned!
