Another Point of View
If you were at the PNut Warehouse Christmas gathering, you heard me say that I like giving and getting gifts. I love showing my affection by giving. And at Christmas, inevitably, I over-do it. Often unrepentantly. My grandparents and parents were infected with the same thing.
But let me give you another point of view. It is called the Advent Conspiracy. (<- Click there). We haven’t ever done the whole “Advent” thing at The ROCK, but the new “conspiracy” is all about reclaiming the real joy of Christmas by spending less, buying more thoughtful gifts, and giving more to the world’s critical needs.
You can read Time Magazine on the Advent Conspiracy. One VERY arresting quote is that “a fraction of the money Americans spend at retailers in the month of December could supply the entire world with clean water.”
I still like to bless the daylights out of my loved ones at Christmas. But the Advent Conspiracy calls my holiday spending habits into question. I’m willing to have my own jaws (& debit card) slapped with an opposing view.
What do you think?
