I took the opportunity today to clarify why we do what we do the way we do at The ROCK.  Hope it made sense.   I believe our church is committed to intervening and arresting a horrific trend:  Every next generation of Americans is less saved and less churched than the preceding one.   We aren’t a church JUST for young people;   We ARE a church “baiting our hook” for the uncaught.  And I/we will do anything but sin to reach those farthest from God.

Anything. Quote pirates, reference vampires, tick people off, spend by faith, turn the music (way) up, buy turkeys for an entire public housing development.  If we think it has a shot of reaching unreached people, we’ll give it a shot.  Today at The ROCK …

• LOVED the music. Jerimiah said there was a glitch or two, but I didn’t catch it.  Some new songs that connected with me and a lot of other people.
• Salvations. GREAT conversation with a lady who “hates organized religion,” is “kinda Buddhist,” and got dragged to The ROCK today by her friend.
• The coffee was hot, hazelnut creamer was available, new ROCK shirts were cool, cookies were warm.  So I knew it was going to be a good day.  A very good day.
• A lady was right in the middle of telling me she was so glad I started The ROCK.  And I stopped her to point out the SWARM of volunteers doing all kinds of things.   My comment was:  “Thanks, but the bigger we get … the smaller my part seems to get.”
• And that’s cool.
• I admitted today that I actually am older than my late 20’s.  People were stunned.  
• Inwardly I was celebrating lots of things today:  (1) We received all the money we need to buy Christmas turkeys for all of Darden Terrace.  (2) We mailed off the contracts to begin our Campus Development process.  (3) My mom, whose health is not good, was doing much better yesterday.  (4) Haddon and Evan will be home tonight.  (5) We’re going to enjoy an awesome worship gathering next Sunday at the PNut Warehouse.
