Sunday De-Brief
Sunday wrapped up the teaching part of our series: The Naked Truth. I presented a Dozen Controversial Truths about relationships. Sadly, nobody stormed out or threw things at me. Not even an angry email today. Apparently – and sadly - I’m losing my touch.
- We continue to attract A LOT of first-time guests. I haven’t counted the cards from Sunday yet, but we constantly run out of contents for our 1st-timer bags. And our greeters still tell me how many new faces they see every week.
- Everybody is a greeter. We tell our “official” greeters not to be too aggressive because we want to maintain a non-threatening environment. We aren’t trying to rush in to “make the sale.” BUT, the truth is that every regularly attending ROCKer is a greeter. All of us should take obvious opportunities to welcome others, introduce ourselves, be great hosts.
- Sunday was the third or fourth in a row where somebody expressed personally how much this series is helping them in their relationships.
- I am hesitant to say this because EVERY time I try to be encouraging about attendance #s, I get a smack in the face with the very next Sunday. BUT, unless attendance falls off the table next Sunday, we will have averaged OVER 500 for two straight months. I don’t believe that’s ever happened.
- I don’t say that so we can boast or be prideful. I report it to encourage those of you who are handing out series cards, talking up our ministry, and inviting your friends. KEEP IT UP!
- TURKEYPALOOZA is off and running. Lots of folks gave yesterday toward our goal of providing a Christmas turkey to every home in Darden Terrace. The “turkey box” will be back next Sunday.
- Band was good. You know they are good when they leave the stage half-laughing because some folks were playing the wrong song … and none of the rest of us noticed. I still like the way we worship some when the teaching time is over.

- Videos were awesome. The one on forgiveness was kind of a buzz-kill, but in a needed way.
- JESUS WANTS THE ROSE!
- Jerimiah said something Sunday I didn’t quite understand about “doing a turkey.” Make sure you ask him about it.

I think I felt as much anger as the gentleman in the clip did. Obviously the preacher to which he was referring was more interested in casting the first stone than spreading the life-changing message of Jesus.
The point about all of us being greeters brings me back to a couple of months ago when the homeless man walked in our church….
Also, where can we find that “drug” commercial clip. That was HILARIOUS and I’m so glad I go to a church where we can laugh at such things.
