PER’s and CON’s
Nope – not a typo up there.
It comes from some advice someone game me years ago about forming healthy habits (especially spiritually healthy habits). Stay PERsistent until you get CONsistent. One personal benefit to our 30Days series is that it builds healthier habits into my life. Already some folks have asked, “What if I missed a day?” (praying, Bible reading, exercizing, orrrr … nevermind) Others are already beating themselves up because they slipped up and ate 4 french fries. DON’T CAVE IN. Stay PERsistent until you get CONsistent.
Refuse to quit your commitment to read the Bible, pray, invite unchurched friends, tithe, eat healthy, exercise, .. whatever 30 Day commitments you made. Stay PERsistent until you get CONsistent. New tasks will become habits. Then habits will become lifestyle.
Here’s one other curious thing: When I think of adding more stuff to my schedule, I worry that I can’t keep up and fit it in. But – somehow – a more disciplined life puts all the pieces in order and I end up with more time “in the margin.” This morning I walked, worked out, took kids to 2 schools, read my Bible, prayed, added 3 more flags to the property (boo-yah!), showered, read some in a book, and still got to my desk by mid-morning. And I already feel better than last week.
DON’T GIVE UP. I’m cheering for you and praying for you. More importantly God is empowering you. And your life will be different when the calendar clicks Dec. 1.
